John was born in 1835 in England. John's father was Joseph KEMP and his mother was Esther (Amelia) SKEY. His paternal grandparents were John KEMP and Unknown. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Edward, Edward, Amelia, Mary and Esther. He was the second youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 58 on September 11th, 1893 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.
