Edward was born in 1823 in Alston Moor, Cumberland, England.  Edward's father was Joseph LEATHART and his mother was Maria DAVIS.  His paternal grandparents were John LEATHART and Elisabeth ELLIOT. He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, Charles, Alfred, Francis, Edwin, Joseph, Eliza and Louisa.  He died at the age of 51 in December 1874 in Northumberland, England.
