Thomas was born on December 13th, 1761 in Haltwhistle, Northumberland.  Thomas' father was John LEATHART and his mother was Elisabeth ELLIOT.  His paternal grandparents were Cuthbert LEATHART and Margaret LEATHART. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named John, Cuthbert, James, William, Joseph, George, Robert, Edward, Mary, Elizabeth, Frances, Anne and Margaret.  He was the fifth oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 65 in 1826.
